The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating obesity or a food composition for preventing or improving obesity containing extracts of leaf from Hippophae rhamnoides L._ as an active ingredient wherein the extract of the leaf from the Hippophae rhamnoides L._ has effects of improving obesity like reducing amount of neutral fat and cholesterol and is accordingly used as functional natural materials for preventing or improving obesity. In addition, the leaf of Hippophae rhamnoides L._ is used, thereby being easily supplied and widely used in food industry.
