Summary:The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus and a method for controlling the same. By applying a DC pulse signal to a charging roller, it is possible to solving a surface potential irregularity of a photosensitive medium, to prevent noise from occurring, and to maintain durability of the photosensitive medium. According to the present invention, the image forming apparatus comprises: a photosensitive medium on which an electrostatic latent image is formed; a charging roller installed not to contact the photosensitive medium and charging the photosensitive medium; and a DC pulse generation unit which provides the DC pulse signal to the charging roller.
