The present invention relates to a device for displaying a hologram image and a method for driving the same, capable of stabilizing brightness of the hologram image and reducing flicker. The device for displaying a hologram image of the present invention comprises: a laser backlight unit to output laser light; a surface light source converting unit to convert the laser light to a surface light source type to be outputted; a spatial light modulator to form an inputted hologram interference pattern and project the hologram image at a viewing point using the laser light of the surface light source type; and a light switching unit which is located between the laser backlight unit and the spatial light modulator to control polarization of the laser light, wherein the light switching unit blocks the laser light irradiated to the spatial light modulator in a block mode corresponding to a period of charging a hologram blocking pattern in each frame by the spatial light modulator and projects the laser light irradiated to the spatial light modulator in a projection mode corresponding to a period after the charge of the hologram blocking pattern in each frame is finished.
