Summary: | The present invention relates to a method and a system used to provide magnetic junction utilized in a magnetic device. The magnetic junction includes a fixed layer, a nonmagnetic spacer layer, and a free-standing layer. The nonmagnetic spacer layer is arranged between the fixed layer and the free-standing layer. The free-standing layer has a gradient in the switching current density threshold. The first Jc0 of a first area of the free-standing layer is lower than the second Jc0 of a second area of the free-standing layer. The second area of the free-standing layer is further away from the nonmagnetic spacer layer than the first area of the free-standing layer. When a write current is flowing through the magnetic junction, the free-standing layer of the magnetic junction can be switched between multiple stable magnetic statuses. |
