A switching element comprises an active pattern, a gate electrode, a gate insulating layer, a source electrode, and a drain electrode. The active pattern includes a channel region, a source region connected to the channel region, and a drain region connected to the channel region. The gate electrode is overlapped with the channel region of the active pattern. The gate insulating layer is arranged between the channel region of the active pattern and the gate electrode. The source electrode is arranged on the source region of the active pattern to be in ohmic contact with the source region. The drain electrode is arranged on the drain region of the active pattern to be in ohmic contact with the drain region. The source region, the drain region, and the channel region of the active pattern are made of the same material.
