Summary:Covalently binding an organic metal complex having at least one metal center and at least one organic ligand to a polymer comprises performing a first reaction comprising a first reactant in the form of the organic metal complex and a second reactant in the form of a polymer, where during the reaction, the metal complex is covalently bonded to the polymer, and the reaction is catalyzed by the metal complex. Independent claims are included for: (1) a polymer having a covalently bound organic metal complex (Q) obtained by the process; (2) a process for preparing a layer of a polymer bound organometallic complex comprising applying a reaction product of a first reaction comprising the first reactant in the form of the organic metal complex and the second reactant in the form of the polymer, preferably for forming a multidimensional network on a solid support, and performing a reaction between the first reactant and the second reactant, where the reaction between the first reactant and the second reactant is catalyzed by the metal complex; and (3) the organic metal complex having the metal and organic ligand, characterized by an anchor group of a first anchor group species for reaction with an anchor group of a second anchor group species for crosslinking, where one of the two anchor groups of the metal complex, during a crosslinking reaction to the anchor group of the second reactant for forming a multidimensional network forms a covalent bond.
