Summary:A method and an apparatus for processing an image which are capable of performing online brightness conversion are disclosed. The image processing method comprises the steps of: separating luminance channels of a reference image and a target image based on the size of a chrominance channel in the reference image and target image; improving the image quality of the target image in which the luminance channel is separated, by using the reference image in which the luminance channel is separated; improving the image quality of an image of the luminance channel which has been separated from the target image by using the target image with improved image quality; and combining the luminance channel of the target image with improved image quality and the luminance channel with improved image quality which has been separated from the target image.
