METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE FATIGUE CAPITAL OF A CABLE

The method involves measuring normal tensile stress (S1), and bending stress in a cable (S2) in a synchronized manner so as to obtain a compound stress in the cable, where the normal tensile stress in the cable is measured by a strain gauge placed on the cable. The number of stress cycles is counted...

Summary:The method involves measuring normal tensile stress (S1), and bending stress in a cable (S2) in a synchronized manner so as to obtain a compound stress in the cable, where the normal tensile stress in the cable is measured by a strain gauge placed on the cable. The number of stress cycles is counted (S3) from the measured compound stress depending on amplitude of the compound stress. A fatigue capital of the cable is assessed (S4) by comparing the number of stress cycles with a pre-set Wohler curve for the cable. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining a fatigue capital of a cable supporting a civil engineering structure.
