Summary:A light emitting device according to an embodiment comprises; a first conductive semiconductor layer; a second conductive semiconductor layer on the first conductive semiconductor layer; and an active layer which is arranged between the first and second conductive semiconductor layers and includes multiple well layers and multiple barrier layers. The multiple barrier layers comprises from first to third barrier layers arranged between adjacent first and second well layers. A first barrier layer includes a binary system compound semiconductor having aluminum between the first well layer and a second barrier layer. A third barrier layer includes a binary system compound semiconductor having aluminum between the second barrier layer and the second well layer. The second barrier layer is arranged between the first and third barrier layers and includes a ternary system or quaternary system compound semiconductor.
