In one embodiment, the femto node (810) assigns a unique identifier to the access terminal (822). The access terminal (822) passes the unique identifier to the macro node (805). The macro node (805) partitions the unique identifier to determine the address of the femto node (810)((1150),(1160),(1170)). In another embodiment, the femto node (810) registers its address with a domain name system (1760). The macro node (805) queries the domain name system to obtain the address of the femto node (810). In another embodiment, the macro node (810) sends the unique identifier to a proxy (2170). The proxy (2170) partitions the unique identifier to determine the address of the femto node (810)(2370).
