Summary:PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing a surface mount inductor is provided to improve characteristics of the surface mount inductor such as the reduction of direct current (DC) resistance or the improvement of an inductance value by enlarging built-in coils or selecting a thick wire. CONSTITUTION: A method for manufacturing a surface mount inductor comprises the steps of: molding preliminarily a sealant into a form that a convex portion having a pillar shape are provided in a circumferential edge portion having a flat plate shape to mold a tablet; winding a wire of which the section has a flat shape to mold coils (1); mounting the coils to the tablet and allowing both ends (1b) of the coils to follow the outer side of the convex portion of the tablet to arrange the both ends of the coils on the mold; integrating the coils with the sealant using a resin molding method or a powder compression molding method with both ends of the coils interposed between the external side of the convex portion of the tablet and the inner wall surface of the mold to form a core part (7); grinding or cutting at least one surface of the core part except for surfaces of the core part in which both ends of the coils are exposed to resize the core part; and installing an external electrode connecting to a part that at least a part of both ends of the coils in the surface of the core part are exposed, to the surface or outer circumference of the core part.
