Summary:PURPOSE: An adapter for an electronic device is provided to supply a receptacle connector matched with a plug connector of accessories, a plug connector matched with a receptacle connector of a portable media player, and one or more conversion circuits, thereby implementing physical or electric compatibility between the electronic device and the accessories. CONSTITUTION: A first connector is matched with a plug connector(22) of an accessory device(20). A second connector is matched with a receptacle connector(140) of a first electronic device(30). A conversion circuit(200) converts signals, which are received from the accessory device, into a mode which is processed by the first electronic device. The conversion circuit converts signals, which are received from the first electronic device, into a mode which is processed by the accessory device. When authentication of a first level which authenticates an adaptor(40) in the first electronic device is successful, an authentication circuit(201) implements authentication of a second level which authenticates the accessory device in the adaptor.
