Summary:PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing an organic electroluminescent device is provided to prevent an intermediate layer made of an insulating material from remaining on an organic compound layer, and to secure an excellent organic electroluminescent device. CONSTITUTION: A first organic compound layer(3) is formed on a device substrate(1) having a first electrodes(2a,2b). A first sacrificial layer(4a) is formed on the first organic compound layer. An intermediate layer(5) is formed on the first sacrificial layer. The intermediate layer, the first sacrificial layer, and the first organic compound layer are partly removed. A second organic compound layer(7) and a second sacrificial layer(4b) are formed on a region where the first organic compound layer is removed. A second electrode(9) is formed on the first organic compound layer and the second organic compound layer.
