Summary: | PURPOSE: Use of noise-optimized selection criteria for finding scene white points is provided to weight plausible neutral pixel values, thereby accurately finding the white points. CONSTITUTION: A programmable control device stores image pixel data in a memory corresponding to commands stored in a non-transitory program storage device. The programmable control device converts the image pixel data into a set of image pixel values in a color space and estimates a noise level for an image(118). The programmable control device distinguishes noise-optimized weighted table values(120). The programmable control device stores generated noise-weighted image pixel data in the memory by multiplying the image pixel values by a noise-optimized weighted table value(124).
