PURPOSE: Slag removal apparatus and method are provided to maintain the smooth flow of slag by supplying water with a stirring effect to prevent the accumulation of the slag on the lower side of a gasifier. CONSTITUTION: A slag removal method comprises the following steps: discharging slag to the outside of a gasifier; filtering liquid slurry formed with moisture and the slag by selecting one filter from plural filters; testing the filtration performance of the selected filter by checking the remaining contents of foreign materials in filtrate; stopping the operation of the filter with the decreased filtration performance; proceeding the filtration process by selecting another filter; and removing the slag from the stopped filter, and checking the filter.
