Summary:PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition and a health functional food containing Curcuma longa L. and Hovenia dulcis Thunb. extract for preventing and treating obesity are provided to lower body weight, fat weight, ATL in blood, HDL cholesterol, and fatty liver. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating obesity contains extracts of 0.1-80 parts by weight of Curcuma longa L., 0.1-40 parts by weight of Hovenia dulcis Thunb., and 0.1-40 parts by weight of Massa Medicata Fermentata as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using water, low carbon number alcohol of C1-C4, or a mixture thereof. The dose of the composition is 0.01-1000 mg/kg(body weight). A health functional food for preventing and treating obesity contains the extracts as an active ingredient.
