Summary:PURPOSE: A mutual authentication method between a reader and a tag in a RFID system against attacks is provided to greatly reduce production costs of the tag by using a pseudorandom number generator used in the tag of a standard EPC(Electronic Product Code)global Gen2. CONSTITUTION: A reader transmits a query message to a tag(S101). The tag transmits a first random number to the reader(S102,S103) The reader requests database retrieval by transmitting the received first random number to a server. The server retrieves the first random number in the database(S104). The tag authenticates the reader by receiving a second random number and comparing the received random number and its own random number and the tag sets a single bit tag transaction flag as "0"(S107). The tag generates an RN3(Alarm=0) or RST(Reset) message(S108). The reader transfers the received RN3 or RST message from the tag to the server. The server authenticates the tag by checking the received message(S110).
