Summary:PURPOSE: A differential histogram based reversible watermarking method by row-column cross scanning is provided to obtain a high insertion capacity by efficient repetitive insertion while maintaining low distortion with complete reversibility. CONSTITUTION: If R is an odd number for an original image, row major scanning is performed on the original image. If R is an even number, column major scanning is performed on the original image. A differential histogram is gradually formed. Bins not used for insertion are shifted to obtain an insertion space. The differential histogram is modified according to a bit of an insertion target message. A message is inserted by modifying the differential histogram. [Reference numerals] (AA) ROUND input; (BB) R is an odd number?; (CC) Row priority scanning; (DD) Column priority scanning; (EE) Message is inserted by modifying histogram.
