PURPOSE: A backlight unit and a liquid crystal display device with the same are provided to prevent leakage of light from a guide surface and an inclined surface of a contact portion of a light guide plate and a light source while maintaining the shape of a thin light guide plate. CONSTITUTION: A light guide plate(30) includes a light incident surface(31), an upper surface(32), and a lower surface(33). Light of a light source(40) is incident on the light incident surface. The upper surface is vertically extended to the light incident surface. The lower surface faces the upper surface. An optical sheet(20) is formed on the light guide plate. The upper surface of the light guide plate includes a guide surface(321), an inclined surface(322), and a light emitting surface(323). The optical sheet covers the inclined surface and the guide surface.
