Summary:PURPOSE: A method for detecting directivity of a ground fault is provided to make directional location possible based on the analysis of a single signal and a disturbance indicating a zero sequence current. CONSTITUTION: A signal receiving means(22) receives a signal indicating a zero sequence current of a line of an electrical power system. A zero-crossing first number determining means(32) determines a first number of zero-crossings of the signal during a cycle which is fixed in advance. A comparing means(34) compares the first number of the zero-crossings with a first critical value. A signal processing means(26) processes the signal indicating the sequence current. A processing method activation means(28) activates the signal processing means according to a detection signal of the generation of a ground fault. An interpreting means(36) interprets results of the processing and determines whether a ground fault malfunction location is in the line side of a directivity detecting device(20) or not.
