Summary:PURPOSE: An apparatus for generating video signal capable of reducing crosstalk between a lightness signal and a chrominance signal and a method thereof are provided to create color difference signal including the brightness signal using an LMS cone signal. CONSTITUTION: A signal separation unit(120) extracts an LMS cone signal from an input image. A lightness signal generating unit(150) creates the brightness signal using the extracted LMS cone signal. A color difference signal generating unit(160) creates the color difference signal using the separated LMS cone signal. A signal transducer(130) changes the separated LMS cone signal into a nonlinear LMS cone signal.
