Summary:PURPOSE: A method for providing a secure protocol in an exchangeable conditional access system is provided to supply a simple security algorithm through a security protocol, thereby effectively reducing costs and time for identifying an illegally coped set-top box. CONSTITUTION: An XCAS head end(110) authenticates a set-top box before a CAS client is provided. A security module(121) is authenticated with a TP(Transport Processor)(122) to obtain the IDs of the TP and the security module. The XCAS head end receives and authenticates a paring authentication request message from the security module. A paring authentication result message including a seed value is transmitted to the security module(140). A shared key is generated to use confidential communication between the security module and the TP(150).
