PURPOSE: A scarfing machine for slab and a control method thereof are provided to measure the distance a injection nozzle to the edge of slab during preheating and control the injection nozzle to the optimum position. CONSTITUTION: A scarfing machine for slab comprises a scarfing unit(100), a distance measuring unit(200), and a control unit(400). The scarfing unit comprises an injection nozzle(150) which injects oxygen of high pressure to the surface of transferred slab and a vertical lifting part(130) which is raised and lowered with respect to a fixed upper frame. The distance measuring unit is installed to be separate from the injection nozzle of the scarfing unit and moved together with the injection nozzle, and measures and outputs the distance to the front edge of slab. The control unit compares the outputted measurement with the set distance data and controls the height of the injection nozzle.
