Summary:PURPOSE: A dihydroxychromone derivative is provided to suppress SARS(severe acute respiratory syndrome)-coronavirus helicase activity which causes SARS. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating diseases caused by a coronavirus contains a compound of chemical formula 1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, hydrate or isomer thereof as an active ingredient. The pharmaceutical composition further contains one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carriers, diluents, or excipients. The disease is SARS(severe acute respiratory syndrome). The pharmaceutical composition further contains an antiviral agent. The antiviral agent is a virus serine protease inhibitor, virus polymerase inihibitor, interferone alpha, or ribavirin.
