Summary:PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for transmitting and receiving uplink bandwidth request information in a broadband wireless communication system are provided to reduce influence of error due to detection of decoding error or a false alarm of a bandwidth request message, thereby increasing transceiving performance of a bandwidth request channel. CONSTITUTION: An MS(Mobile Station) transmits a bandwidth request indicator to a BS(Base Station)(302). The BS assigns uplink resources of a previously defined size for a bandwidth request to the terminal(304). The terminal transmits identification information and bandwidth request information to the base station(306). The base station reflects checked information to an uplink scheduler. The base station allocates requested uplink resources at time when the scheduler allows(308).
