Summary:PURPOSE: A valve timing control apparatus is provided to implement rotational phase control and phase lock control using a single control valve. CONSTITUTION: A vane rotor comprises a vane dividing an advance chamber(22) in a retard chamber(26). A valve element(70) connects a lock port(663) and exhaust ports(666,667), and discharges a fluid from the lock port when moving in a first direction within a first area including an end of an operating range. When discharged from a lock chamber(31), the fluid detours elastic members(33,35) in order to lock the rotational phase to a regulated phase. A regulating member(32) moves in a thrust direction from a vane rotor to recesses(151,152) formed in a housing. In a throttle area of the first area, the valve element connects a supply port(664) to operating ports(661,662).
