Summary:PURPOSE: A water-retaining clay block and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to optimize the surface structure of the clay block for improving the moisture retaining efficiency by forming multiple micro-pores using a pore forming agent. CONSTITUTION: A water-retaining clay block for reducing the thermal island effect contains 45~70wt% of kaolin, 10~40wt% of clay, 5~40wt% of fly ash, and 3~5wt% of graphite. A manufacturing method of the water-retaining clay block comprises the following steps: forming a mixture of the kaolin, the clay, the fly ash, and the graphite; adding 17~20 parts of water by weight to 100 parts of mixture by weight for kneading the mixture; extruding the mixture to form a molded product; drying the molded product for 36~48 hours in 20~120 deg C; and plasticizing the molded product for 30~40 hours in 1,100~1,200 deg C to form pores inside.
