Summary:PURPOSE: A perpendicular magnetic recording medium is provided to improve thermal stability and recording characteristics while reducing the particle size of a record layer to improve the recording density. CONSTITUTION: A perpendicular magnetic recording medium(100) comprises a substrate(110), a soft-magnetic layer(120), and a record layer(160). The soft-magnetic layer is formed on the substrate. The record layer is formed on the soft-magnetic layer, including a plurality of ferromagnetic layers(161,165,167) and a nonmagnetic layer(163) interposed between the ferromagnetic layers so as to magnetically isolate the ferromagnetic layers.
