It is an object to improve convenience and serviceability in an information distributing system. In an information distributing apparatus (server) and an information communicating terminal, contents are managed by use of content identifiers (content ID's) that are collectively managed. Especially, in the terminal, for example, contents ripped from CD' s or the like and stored in a HDD are also managed with content ID' s obtained from the information distributing apparatus, whereby the stored contents are managed by use of the content identifiers managed commonly to the information distributing apparatus side. On the terminal side, during communication with the information distributing apparatus, in a case of determining a content stored in the storage means, the collectively-managed content identifiers are used, thereby realizing a download of the content, a reception of additional information, and other kinds of various distributed services.
