Summary:PURPOSE: A method of controlling the tracking in a holographic data storage system is provided to enhance the beam tracking using a pre-mastered groove tracking layer with an additional different color laser source. CONSTITUTION: A method of controlling the tracking in a holographic data storage system(10) is as follows. A beam(16) is collided with a holographic data disc(12). The beam(18) reflected from the holographic data disc is detected by a multi-component detector. The pattern detected by the multi-component detector is analyzed to generate a tracking error signal. The beam is reflected from the micro hologram arranged in the holographic data disc. The multi-component detector comprises at least two components. The tracking error signal includes a S-curve signal.
