PURPOSE: An air conditioning method and air conditioner which optimizes the consumed energy of a cooling tower are provided to produce cooled energy of optimum temperate in each operation mode by controlling the number of cooling tower which needs to be driven. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner(10) comprise a plurality of cooling towers(42A,42B,42C,42D,42E,42F,42G,42H), refrigerators(44X,44Y,44Z), a refrigerator cycle line, a pre-cooling cycle line, a line switching member, and a controller. The cooling tower cools the cooling water. The refrigerator comprises condensers and evaporators. The refrigerator cycle line circulates the cooling water cooled in the evaporator and the cooling water cooled in the cooling tower. The pre-cooling cycle line circulates the cooling water cooled in the cooling tower by a cooperation load part.
