Summary:PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for machining 'V' grooves is provided to machine a square pyramid with uniform height with a high precision by compensating the cutting depth of a cutting tool based on the measured depth data of 'V' grooves. CONSTITUTION: A 'V' groove machining method is as follows. A first V-groove(60) is formed on the surface of a work-piece as a specific pitch by sending a cutting tool in a first direction with respect to a work-piece. The distance to the bottom of the first V-groove is measured by a distant sensor by irradiating the first V-groove. The bending of the bottom of the first V-groove is detected along the first direction. The location of the cutting tool at each processing location of a second V-groove(62) is corrected based on the detection result of the bending. The second V-groove is formed on the surface of a work-piece by sending a cutting tool in the second direction crossing with the first direction with respect to a work-piece. The second V-groove is formed as a specific pitch by repeating the processing operations.
