Summary:PURPOSE: A liquid crystal alignment material is provided to control the accumulation of the residual DC in application of thermal stress. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal alignment material comprises a polymer having a repeating unit represented by chemical formula 1. At least one kind of a polymer is selected from the group consisting of a polyamic acid and its imidized polymer, wherein the polyamic acid is obtained by reacting tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and diamine. In chemical formula 1, R is hydrogen atom or methyl group; A1 is a single bond, phenyl group or divalent group represented by chemical formula A1-1 to A1-5; and B is C9-30 monovalent organic group having a chroman skelecton.
