A gate driver, a driving method thereof, and a display having the same are provided to prevent an erroneous discharge of a display by sensing an error of a vertical synchronization start signal supplied from a timing controller through a display mode change and preventing shutdown due to the malfunction of the gate driver. In gate driver, a driving method thereof, and a display having the same, an error detecting unit(210) measures the number of a gate clock when a vertical synchronization start signal is high for one frame and it outputs the vertical synchronization start signal and a level signal. A shift register(230) receives an output signal of the error detecting unit and outputs a plurality of shift signals. A level shifter(250) shifts the level of the shift signal in response to the shift signal and outputs it, and an output buffer(270) supplies the output signal of the level shifter to a gate line.
