Summary: | An image display device and an image-quality compensating method are provided to perform the black stretch by applying an offset value of only a block which has lower brightness level, thereby increasing the contrast ratio without the loss of the maximum brightness level. A memory unit(10) stores an offset value corresponding to the mean value of a DC element. A scaler scales a video signal inputted from the outside. A DC calculator(20) calculates the ratio values of DC components of each block in the scaled video signal of a frame unit. A controller(30) sets up the offset value of a corresponding frame based on the mean value of ratio values calculated through the DC calculator, and then determines a block to which the set offset value will be applied based on the ratio values of each block. A black stretch performing unit(40) applies the set offset value to the determined block and then performs the black stretch. |
