Summary:A SMS system, a method therefor and a terminal thereof are provided to transmit/receive short messages through the public switched telephone network by making the transmission/receipt of the short messages through a communication line of a wired/wireless communication network possible. A local exchange(20) accommodates SMS(short message service) terminals(30, 32) and a business customer SMS apparatus(50), and performs the call processing so that a call line can be established among an SMS server, the SMS terminals and SMS apparatus. Toll exchanges(12, 14, 16) are connected WITH the SMS server and local exchange through an E1 line for the voice. The SMS server connects a call line with the SMS terminals, business customer SMS apparatus and SMS hosting apparatus(40), and transmits/receives a message defined in the FSK(Frequency-shift keying) signaling method through a traffic channel.
