Summary:The invention relates to a piston (1), for a hydraulic brake, produced in a forming process from a metal starting material, in particular, from a flat sheet with the form of a cup, open to one side with a longitudinal axis (2), a wall (3) and a base (4) and defined on an open front face by an edge with an axial contact surface (A) which makes contact with a brake pad. The base has an essentially planar outer surface, a wall thickness for the base (Sb) is larger than a minimal thickness (Sw) for the wall and, in a transition region between the base and the wall, a wall thickness increases steadily from the wall to the base so that the wall transforms into the base at an angle. The invention further relates to a method comprising forming of a discoid round blank in a cupped hollow cylinder and swaging the hollow cylinder along the longitudinal axis thereof such that the base material is thickened by the swaging.
