Summary:A channel change speed improving method of an open cable system and an apparatus thereof are provided to reduce time required to receive CAT/PMT(Conditional Access Table/Program Map Table) information by receiving the CAT/PMT information of each channel, received through an inband channel, through an OOB cahnnel. A CAS(Channel Associated Signaling) head end(100) encrypts broadcasting contents and includes a CAT transmitter(110). Demux/remux equipment(200) performs demux/remux of the broadcasting contents encrypted by the CAS head end, and includes a PMT(Program Map Table) transmitter(210). An OOB(Out-Of-Band) SI generator(300) generates and transmits SI information including CAT(Conditional Access Table)/PMT information(main data), and includes a CAT/PMT collector(310). A CMTS(Cable Modem Termination System)(400) transmits SI information including the main data transmitted from the OOB SI generator to an open cable STB(Set Top Box)(500) through an OOB band. The open cable STB receives the SI information through the OOB band, and includes an SI information analysis/channel DB(Database)(510) and A CAT/PMT extractor(520) interworking with the SI information analysis/channel DB. A cable card(POD(Point Of Deployment))(600) receives CAPMT information from the CAT/PMT extractor of the open cable STB, and release encrypted contents of each channel. After that, the cable card provides a user with the contents.
