Summary:An electronic device equipped with a touch screen is provided to facilitate moving among items displayed in a display area by using characteristic of the touch screen when one of the displayed items is selected. A touch screen(12) is divided into a display unit(14) for displaying data and a touch panel(16) for controlling data display, displays a cursor at a position for selecting an item or inputting the data in the display unit, and detects whether a touch signal is received from the display unit. A controller(10) moves and displays the cursor based on a moving status of touch input when the touch input detected through the touch screen is moved in one direction. The touch panel includes a scroll bar area for selecting screen scrolling and a soft menu area for selecting a menu. The controller controls movement of the cursor to select the item displayed in the same direction as the moving direction of the touch signal among four directions based on the item currently selected by the cursor.
