Summary: | A carbon nanofiber for a fuel cell is provided to realize a high surface oxygen content and to obtain an electrode material having a large surface area, thereby improving the efficiency of a fuel cell. A carbon nanofiber for a fuel cell has a surface oxygen content greater than 0.03, as calculated from the formula of [oxygen content = (atomic % of oxygen)/ (atomic % of carbon)] derived from atomic % of each of oxygen, nitrogen and carbon, wherein each atomic % is obtained from the peak areas of an oxygen peak having a binding energy of 524-540 eV, a nitrogen peak having a binding energy of 329-404 eV, and a carbon peak having a binding energy of 282-290 eV in the X-ray photoelectric spectrum. |
