A display device, a display system, and a computer-readable recording medium storing a brightness control program are provided to improve user convenience for controlling brightness of the display device and facilitate change into a brightness control state of a high power consumption effect. A sensor(13) detects brightness around an LCD unit(10). A brightness controller(15a) controls the brightness of the LCD unit in a first brightness control state for changing the brightness of the LCD unit according to the detected ambient brightness, a second brightness control state for keeping the brightness of the LCD unit at a preset brightness level, and a third brightness control state for keeping the brightness of the LCD unit at the minimum brightness level. A first operation unit is operated when the brightness control state of the brightness controller is changed. A switching controller(15b) changes the brightness control state by operation of the first operation unit. A state display controller(15c) enables the brightness controller to keep the current brightness control state and displays information for the current brightness control state to the LCD unit when the first operation unit is operated at first.
