Summary:A lift installation, a guide rail of the lift installation, brake equipment of the lift installation, and a method for guiding, holding, and braking the lift installation are provided to effectively prevent erroneous operation of a brake due to separation of a brake lining by simultaneously guiding the brake lining and the brake equipment laterally through longitudinal grooves. A lift installation includes a lift cage and brake equipment. The brake equipment holds and brakes the lift cage. The brake equipment has a brake lining(12) interacting with a brake surface(11). The brake surface acts on the brake lining in case of need and has at least one longitudinal wedge groove or wedge lift unit oriented toward a brake direction. The brake lining has a counter shape to the longitudinal wedge groove or wedge lift unit of the brake surface.
