Summary:An electronic device and method for inputting Korean vowels are provided to simplify character input and complete Korean characters quickly with the number of keypad inputs. A user interface(130) includes a plurality of keys. A processor(120) is programmed to input Korean vowels. The processor maps the first key to a long vertical line component of the Korean vowels, the second key to a short horizontal line component of the Korean vowels, the third key to a long horizontal line component of the Korean vowels, and the fourth key to a short vertical line component of the Korean vowels. The processor is programmed to complete at least one vowel or consonant input sequence forming a Korean character by first manipulating the fifth key among the keys. The keys include consonant keys, and each consonant key is mapped to at least one Korean consonant.
