Summary:An apparatus and a method for correcting clipping distortion of a receiving system are provided to improve a BER(Bit Error Rate) of system performance and reduce an overall complexity by reducing the number of times of repeating signal restoration. An equalizing unit(110) which consists of first and second equalizers(111,112) equalizes a frequency domain clipping signal by the first equalization coefficient correcting channel distortion to generate the first equalization signal, and equalizes the frequency domain clipping signal by the second equalization coefficient correcting clipping distortion and channel distortion to generate the second equalization signal. A signal reconfiguring unit(120) which includes first and IFFT(Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) operators(121,128), a storage unit(122), a signal regenerating unit(123), a switching unit(126), a transmission symbol determining unit(127), a switching signal generating unit(125) and a second FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) operator(124) receives the first and second equalization signals from the equalizing unit and determines a transmission symbols by performing hard decision on the second equalization signal. If the size of the amplitude of the transmission symbol is larger than a reference value, the signal reconfiguring unit reconfigures a signal by using the amplitude of the transmission symbol and the phase of the first equalization signal.
