Summary:A gripper is provided to improve force transmission by using an intermediate piece having first pivot shafts of two lever elements and a transmission lever to transmit operating force to clamping projections. A gripper(1), particularly for a thin article(2), includes two clamping projections(4a,4b) which are relatively movable with respect to each other by a transmission device(7). The transmission device has a toggle lever with first and second lever members(8a,8b). The first and second lever members have first end portions mounted on first pivots to be displaced by an operation element and second end portions connected to the clamping projections, respectively. The operation element has a movable intermediate piece(11). The first pivots of both of the lever elements are mounted on the intermediate piece at a predetermined interval.
