A method for preparing an extract of Aster Spathulifolius aerial part, a composition for treating hyperlipidemia and obesity containing the extract prepared by the method, and a functional food containing the extract are provided to improve the effect for treating or preventing hyperlipidemia and obesity by increasing the content of terpene-based compounds such as germacrone. A method for preparing an extract of Aster Spathulifolius aerial part comprises the steps of washing the dried powder of Aster Spathulifolius aerial part with water at a room temperature and dehydrating it; dissolving the obtained powder of Aster Spathulifolius aerial part in ethanol, a mixture solvent of ethanol and water, or a mixture solvent of n-hexane and ethanol to obtain an extract of Aster Spathulifolius aerial part; optionally filtering it, concentrating the filtered one under reduced pressure and drying the concentrated one.
