Summary:An apparatus and a method for configuring a depth information map, and an image display apparatus and method using the depth information map are provided to extract a certain region of an original image and apply various effects. A calculating unit(230) measures contrasts of each unit region of a certain image by focal distances. A controller(250) determines a difference between a subject of a focal region of an image and depths of each unit region of the image. A configuring unit(260) configures a depth information map by allocating a certain depth information value to the unit regions according to the determined depth difference. The controller(260) determines the depth difference by comparing a focal distance of the focal region where the contrast is maximized and a focal distance of the unit region where the contrast is maximized, or through the tendency of a change in the measured contrast.
