Summary:A method and a system for providing location based information using a moving distance are provide to request the location-based information and transmit the information only when the moving distance of a user exceeds a predetermined distance, thereby restricting unnecessary communication and reducing costs. A system for providing location based information includes location based data base(410), an information extractor(420), and an information transmitter(430). The location based data base(410) stores information provided according to locations. The information extractor(420) extracts location-based information from the location-based data base based on the position of a user terminal if the user terminal requests information based on the position by determining that the user terminal moves by a preset distance. The information transmitter(430) transmits information extracted from the information extractor to the user terminal.
