Summary:A monitoring apparatus and a monitoring method are provided to store a filter selection corresponded to information included in meta data in a filter selection storing unit including various information about a monitoring object by meta data, thereby effectively performing various monitoring operations and outputting result for monitoring. A monitoring apparatus comprises the followings: an image data acquiring unit(311) for acquiring image data from a monitoring terminal; a meta data acquiring unit(312) for acquiring meta data indication information about a monitoring object from the monitoring terminal; a filter selection storing unit(314) for storing a filter selection; a meta data filter unit for performing a filter process of filter data using a filter selection stored in the filter selection storing unit; and an output unit for outputting a monitoring result on the basis of a filter process result acquired from a filter process in the meta data filter unit.
