Summary:The invention relates to a high-pressure discharge lamp comprising a ceramic discharge vessel having a first and a second edge; a first and a second metal closing member closing off the vessel, at least one of said closing members comprising a metal current feedthrough; an intermediate layer between the edge of the ceramic discharge vessel and at least the first closing member, with a coefficient of thermal expansion in between those of the vessel and the first closing member, wherein the first edge is profiled. The profiled edge may be formed by a beveled inner and outer surface of the edge of the vessel. This provides a low-cost sealing, which is particularly suitable for high-pressure metal halide lamps.
